Stacyann Chin writes in her memoirs "The Other Side of Paradise" what it is like growing up in poverty in Jamaica.  It is really inspiring and terribly sad that so many children not only in Jamaica but in so many countries including the United States.  And so many never make it out of poverty to realize their dreams.  I highly recommend this book.  The other book I am reading is "When the Past Is Present" deals with healing the emotional wounds that sabotage our relationships... ALL of them with our bosses, spouses, children and friends.... another reason why children cannot raise themselves.   I just read "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell and you can watch him speak on youtube or ted.com.  He talks about the one who get the opportunities do better than people who don't so if we all had the same opportunities as bill gates we would all be as successful as bill gates.... really good books....
