I have always tried to have a good sense of humour. But no way
I can keep up to the jokes brother Ted has up his sleeve. Well,
not always....
I remember years ago my brother was coming in late from a music rehearsal with some friends in the their band. Well, the
little prankster (that would be me) had some other plans. I
waited until my brother carried in the accordian and guitar and
he was back at the trunk of his car to carry in some music and
at that point I quickly stacked several bottles and cans and jars
inside the back door, so when trying to come in so very quietly
all hell broke loose. The dog was barking, my brother was
uttering some words I shall not repeat and Dad was taking giant
steps to the back door to see what was going on. I was in the
corner, red in the face with laughter. As soon as my brother noticed me...he grabbed a broom and proceeded to chase me out
the door, across the yard, through the garden, down the block
all the time uttering these horrible words. My laughter was turning to fear but my steps were quick, he did not catch me, nor
did he let me forget my dirty deed the next day. Ah, the joy of
growing up.
Years later, I was carrying an accordian case and travelling with
Jack (our sales Manager - for a company that sold music lessons) and I was now the humble junior salesman. Upon entering a large home with a large family (mostly girls) my job
was to explain about the music school and offer music lessons.
What I did not know - my fly (zipper) was un-done. And Jack
kept making strange faces in the background. The lady of the house and her girls seemed to have a smirk and I was getting quite annoyed. I thought my presentation must be awful. Well,
finally Jack ushered me to the corner on the pretense that he
quickly needed to tell this junior salesman something important and when he did- let me tell you, my face must have been as
red as the living room carpet. And as fast as lightening I corrected the problem and proceeded to enroll another four students into the music school.
Maybe that was pay-back time for this little prankster. The joys
of life and growing up....
