We all know of them, or at least see them. They are often quiet
and alone. They feed the homeless, feed cats and dogs and birds.
They don't ask for a reward. They are the everyday heroes.
They pick up garbage and place it in a receptacle. They smile and offer a helping hand to an older person, or to a handicapped person. They offer help to a young family. They help find a lost toy or a lost pet. They are out and about at all hours. They sometimes return a stolen wallet. They report abuse. They call about a fire. They are there for someone with a heart attack.
They offer spare change at the local store. They often help when someone is short of change to buy groceries. They offer a prayer when they see a tradgedy on television. They hold the elevator door open when everyone else hurries away. They pick up an
old man's cane. They offer to look for a pair of glasses that an
older woman has lost.
Yes, they do all these things and more. We all know of them
but don't always know them. But of course we know they are the everyday heroes.
Do you know one of them? Did they help you? And did you
reciprocate? Would you help them at a time of need? If your
answer is yes, then you are also an everyday hero.
The reward for the everyday hero is a simple thankyou, or a smile or a handshake. And sometimes we feel that the person
doing the helping is an angel in disguise - and yes, thats possible as well. So give it a try. And maybe you'll make it a habit of
being an everyday hero. You won't regret it.
