About a year ago, on a warm summer night, the evening news
blared on our television. Suddenly looking out of our living
room window appeared a deer, bloodied and foaming at the mouth. Looking for protection, huddled briefly under our
tall spruce tree...

Considering we live within walking distance of both a river valley and freeway, there is occuring on regular basis, a series of
unfortunate mishaps. Mostly between vehicles and family members of mother nature, little critters mostly. And its a growing concern. Remember, these innocent,  fuzzy critters once
roamed in peaceful forests where shiny vehicles now roar past,
stereos blaring, garbage often tossed out the window. That
negligent don't give a damn atitude.

Engineering and technology in sharp contrast. Its called progress. Or is it? Have we gone too far too fast? Don't we
need to slow down?

A massive war against nature is in progress. Perhaps some would say that happened inadverdently. Some say, oh, its only
a few ducks. Some say, only a few fish. And some say, its only
a few trees. Is this some sort of ignorant vanity surfacing? Gosh
I hope not. Because such negligence can only go so far and for
so long. The ice is already melting north and south. Certain
birds and animals are extinct or near extinction. And all we want
is another freeway and a faster car? Say what?  Have we suddenly lost our souls along this mad highway leading to ecological disaster and hopelessness? Is that Mother Nature
pounding and shouting at our door? Because, if that is the case,
we all need to be part of the solution just as we have all become
part of the problem, like it or not. The ocean is at risk. The forests are at risk. And humanity is at risk. We all need to consider what the future holds....
