Where do you purchase a recession proof umbrella? Not sure, but what I am sure of is that those in the know are telling us that down times are often times
of new opportunity. Both Canada and the U.S. and many countries have now
entered a time, perhaps we should call it the slow growth era-

Big companies are putting projects on hold. Real Estate is in a slump. Car
and truck sales are not doing so well. So whats all this about opportunity?

Well, first of all, the less is more philosophy has got to prevail just to keep
our sanity. Time to stop hoarding items and sell what you don't need. You
might find a few treasures in your basement or garage that you didn't know
you had, or forgotten them!

I know of people coming up with all sorts of new creative ideas. At least new
for themselves. The cottage industry is making a comeback.  You can create
things and sell them from your home.

Lets face it, with a downturn we have more time. If you were laid off - well,
make this time your rediscovery part of your life. Explore new ideas, take
that bicycle trip, act a little kid - after all that kid inside of you is still there...

Make a trip to your local library, start to appreciate exactly what you do
have as opposed to what you really don't need.

One old gent I know, laid off from the oil patch is happy as a baby
making new stuff, birdhouses, lawn chairs.  One door closed. Another opened.

Take a course, do more local travel. Say,  I think the picture is clear. The
new door of opportunity has indeed opened in these tough times. Make the
best. But stay clear of the fast buck buddies. Big and fast returns are usually
promises someone cannot keep so stay clear.

Remember the good life is meant to happen slowly. Observe nature,
learn to relax more. Take a greater interest in your health and what is
more healthy for you. Keep in touch with old friends and especially family
and encourage others.

Rainy days are coming. Don't say I didn't warn you!  But also a chance
to make a big break in a new direction.  Good luck. And by the way,
maybe you can share with me some of your recession proof ideas. Go ahead
I'm listening....
