We have heard that expression about temptation ringing the door bell but -
opportunity only knocking once. In some ways there is some truth to that.
I cannot help but think of Ron Wayne and his associates at Apple Computers,
thus the title of this blog, A DAY LATE, A DOLLAR SHORT. In Ron's case
the big deal apparently was whether or not to invest $800 (Thats eight hundred dollars) which today would have given him a cool return of 22 Billion Dollars.
Simply unbeliveable. But true. For reasons that only Ron would know about-
the deal did not go ahead. He backed out. At age 76 now playing the slots in
Arizona. In the San Jose Mercury News, Bruce Newman wrote that Ron Wayne
speaks of having no regrets, lest he end up in a rubber room.
Thats all history as they say, water under the bridge. Mistakes are made. Fortunes are lost. Even Donald, yes thats the Donald (Trump) has a times been
up and at times been down.
Perhaps for those of us who exist within the boundaries of a modest lifestyle -
the could have, might have, should have - is just about all the things that for
one reason or another went sour. Sour grapes. The ship that never came in.
But I recall a Minister at the United Church talking about the glass being either half empty or half full. Perhaps that is more of the reality of the situation.
We really cannot do a whole lot about who we could be, the mansion we could have lived in, or the world travel that would have come with big bucks - hey, if thats what we are after.
Some of us have no qualms about living humble, not going to the fancy restaurant or mixing with the Hollywood Crowd. And by the looks of some of the
fancy pants - maybe thats not exactly the world you would want to be in anyways.
So, calm down Charlie Brown. Take the good with the bad. Apple in hand, thats
the one you eat, and a brisk step and a happy whistle.
Can there really be more? Just think of all the good things in your life, all the
things that don't cost a penny and yet bring such pleasure. Think of all the kindness the good Lord has bestowed upon you and the treasures of your mind,
your heart, your soul.
Count your blessings.
