Every single day we seem to enounter some report somewhere about death. Murder. Suicide. Accidents. Do we still live by the biblical standard of an eye for an eye?

blog
Strange how the matter of a final resolution to a crime brings out various
schools of thought. Many want the death penalty restored. Shoot him. Electrocute her. Inject the criminal with something - anything? And it goes on.
The eye for an eye way of thinking. And others frown on taxpayers looking
after every need of a killer. Sure - take him out for a birthday party. Sure, let
him watch his favorite movie. Sure, let him get his/her pension.

In Iran there is a movement to end the inhumane method - by stoning. And
now the preferred method is by hanging. And that is not even for a crime.
At least not by our way of thinking. Its for adultery.

And not to omit carnage on the road, drinking and driving. Losing control of
a high power motorcycle. Or a high powered boat. And what about death in
the workplace. How do you find a corporation guilty? Who gets charged? What
is the price of death in the workplace?

But more shocking, its death unexpected. A home invasion. A senior brutally
attacked in his/her own home. Killed in the safe surroundings of familiarity.
Or a robbery. Or the mental deficiency of someone who was otherwise sane
in the past? And we hear the expression, let punishment fit the crime. But
courts and legal system drag along slowly. Court dates are cancelled. Appeals
are made. Gosh, sorry - it was an accident! Didn't mean to....!  Just lost his
temper, thats all. Normally he is a nice guy.  Temporary insanity. Religion
made him do it. His wife was cheating. Her husband was cheating. Oh - he was
sleep walking. Influenced by too many Chain Saw movies. Thought he was the
Godfather. Excuses. Excuses.  Sure - we buy it in the movies. But this is life.
Like Coke - Its the real thing.  Not a dress rehearsal. This is it.

And families left with tears and bad feelings. Questions deserve answers.
Justice needs to prevail. But tell me, where is justice hiding these days?
