Here I am walking among the flowers, and variety of namesake at the cemetery.
I remember my wife had told me - look by the pine trees - and sure enough
just close to the pine trees which stretched over the pond - there was the
grave of Mom and Dad. Its been a little while. I was not sure how to respond or
what exactly to say. Not to worry. Everything seem to happen quickly. I was on
my knees. The tears were like a gentle rain and likely my sobbing carried out
over the pond, throughout the cemetery. It could not be helped. I had to tell Mom
and Dad how I loved them. Silence. Tears. Some maintenance people passed in
what looked like a small truck. A stranger looking upset passed along the road.
But mostly the coldness which ate through my clothing when I arrived had
dissappeared and the sun shone bright and warm. I was starting to feel a tremendous peace and goodness around me. I sat still for a good half hour. Then
I watched a red van drive slowly and stop. It was my brother and his wife. Brother
Ted carried a smile. Helen carried a bouquet of Sweet William. She gently placed the flowers at the grave. A family of babies and Momma duck drifted slowly across the pond. A crow seemed to cry up high on a tree. The water was
more peaceful than ever. Myself, brother Ted and Helen shared memories and even a little laughter reflecting on earlier times.
Mom and Dad we love you and miss you and shall always love you and miss you,
until we meet again....may God Bless and keep you.
And we drove slowly out of the cemetery, myself in my truck (still needing a wash) and Ted and Helen in the red van. The sun shone upon the cemetery.
The day was beautiful. Life was as it should be and Mom and Dad would approve....
Till we meet again....
