I went to visit a dear friend of ours. He is alert and still has a big smile in spite of the fact that the hospital has been his home for at least 6 months. Our friend was in an airplance, he was the pilot and had a passenger. The plan on that day was to give a homebuilt aircraft a test flight. Weather was good. As a matter of fact, everything seemed fine. But fine - it was not.
The plane crashed in a field not far from where Bob lived.
The passenger walked away from the crash. Bob was removed and placed on a stretcher with most of his body battered by the horrific nose first crash into the earth. For a long while Bob did not want to live. But some strange thing happened. Maybe it was simply something someone said. Anyways, Bob determined it would be better to at least be alive and work towards the future to hopefully get better, get on with life. And thats what Bob did.
He worked out of his wheel chair, repairing computers and read a great deal and recovered to a large degree. But then along came this need for further operations, so back into the hospital.
And now, here were two friends (myself and Bob) sharing a joke,
talking about flying, talking about movies and books and various things we enjoyed. Then it was time to go. Visiting hours were over.
And I realized, driving home that evening - Bob really lifted my spirits by his always optimistic nature...and I began to wonder if the good Lord planned this visit - maybe it was I that needed some healing....
