Having travelled the backroads for so many years I have heard many stories, this one about Elvis, I would like to share with you....

blog
I often found over the years, being a good listener can provide a writer with some wonderful stories.

A couple had moved west from Newfoundland and bought an acreage. I happened to call on this couple to hopefully interest them in purchasing an aerial photo which I had taken. Sitting down at their table one cold winter night, the subject somehow turned to Elvis. Yes, the King. The one and only Elvis Aaron Presley. The gentleman went on to tell me that working for the military in Newfoundland, his job happened to be in the kitchen.
This was many years ago. But he remembered it like it was yesterday. Anyways, a smiling young man also in uniform came walking into the kitchen on the military base. He walked over and asked quietly and politely- if it were possible to have a peanut butter sandwich. Everyone looked at Elvis- astonished that this young gentleman- would happen to be at this place and at that time.  And that is obviously a true story about someone who met the King, at a time when he wore a military uniform and took time away from being a star. On the military base he was another ordinary guy, well not quite....but I suppose everyone including Elvis would have preferred it that way...

and you could almost hear Elvis walk out, in song...
"and tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight....."

And we just never know who, what and where, as life is full of surprises. This must have been a magic moment.
