I doubt there is a perfect system (anywhere) - but it so happens we all need health care from time to time. And often we need care when we least expect it. Just as we elect politicians warts and all, there still needs to be a system in place. And why not a universal health care system? Just as Doctors without borders travel the world and dedicate time and service to those less fortunate, basically we are all brothers and sisters on this fragile planet. Private care did not save Elvis or Michael Jackson.
Plain and simple. We need a reliable system in place with universal recognition - where each of us would carry a health care card with our photo, place of origin and special notes on the card about our personal health allowing health care professionals to take quick and proper care by knowing exactly who we are and what we are about. How much more complicated can it possibly be?
The price? Ah, the price. Well, thats determined by our ability or inability to contribute. But contribute we must. The high earners, the low earners pay equally. And if you are standing in line at emergency next to someone rich and famous, there would be no favoritism shown. The non-earners, those who are blind and disabled would automatically be covered - universally.
Hospitals, why not more portables? Health care benefits could have a bonus which could go back into the system, should that be the wish of the particular doctor or nurse or other. And doctors would be paid consistent with median earnings in their country, with a ceiling on the earnings. Proof positive that the medical profession was entered with the care and consideration outlined when those professionals first trained. Its a lifelong service.
Much like police, doctors, etc.
Part time workers? Yes, we would need plenty more of them and medically trained police who would patrol nursing homes and care facilities to ensure there is no abuse, with abuse resulting in the health care person looking for other work.
We need a system that works, worldwide, staff we can trust, and places where we can go, when we need them and receive fast response to our needs.
A universal health care system!!!
