Once upon a time ~long long ago ~ Everything in life~ was pretty simple ~and precious~And most people were content ~
Every one~~ or almost everyone had a wood and coal burning stove ~ And used it to heat the house ~ heat the water for cooking ~ do the dishes and for baths~ I do remember that ~Also ~when mom
made a pie ~ she never threw away the leftover pastry dough ~which was made from simple lard in those days ~She rolled it and sprinkles sugar and cinnamon *if she had some * and baked it on top of the old stove ~
What a delicious treat that was~We never went hungry ~The stove kept us warm ~as well as the house~
The thoughts of smelling these things in the olden days stir up wonderful old memories ~Even the smell of the frozen laundry that was brought in after being hung out on the line smelled awesome ~You know ~ the ice that the iceman brought for our icebox *if any of you can remember that ~~ had a certain smell ~that sparked your senses ~ maybe knowing that the food was going to keep cold and taste that much better ~
Funny thing was ~ how we waited for *ice* to form on the inside of the bedroom window in the winter ~ rather than worry that there was no insulation around it ~What do children know ?~ We used to put a penny on the ice and make designs ~ that kept us occupied for a long time ~
We were happy and content with what we had at that time ~ Never worried about things otherwise ~We never heard of a computer or an ipod or any of the technologies that exist today ~
I think we were better off then~~ rather than the situation of the world the way it is today ~ Its time to ~*Think* and enjoy the simple things in life~ while we can~I wonder if anyone uses a wood stove today ?
