This big lonely land we call Canada happens to be the birth place of one, Randy Bachman, and thanks to Randy & Denise
and the spectacular radio show Vinyl Tap - I have picked up
my acoustic guitar and once again have started back at some
serious song-writing....
Over a period of some twenty years during the time I was busy
flying over parts of Canada and shooting aerial photography -
most likely Randy was busy at a concert or in a studio, creating
some very memorable music, along with his associates
Bachman Turner Overdrive and the Guess Who.
My wife Vicky taught Boby Curtola's boys some piano,
Lennie Breau was playing a little jazz( hideaway called
the Yardbird Suite) and the music industry was changing
dramatically. The Beatles and other British Bands were
the new sound, Elvis was fading into the background and
Canada was learning about Randy Bachman and company.
I still crank up the music when I hear Fred Turner belt out
Let it Ride or the Guess Who do the tune American Woman.
The music business is constantly changing and yet as they say
the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Randy and Denise - may your show continue because every
show is Forever Young and special.....
To hear Randy and Denise Bachman on their CBC radio show talking about music and even having Randy demonstrate a few
licks on the guitar is phenomenal. You find a friend when you
tune in and you share in some of that special knowledge that
is provided about the history, and specific stories about some of the songwriters behind the song. Its all good.
We need more Radio Programs like Vinyl Tap - that not only
entertain, but educate and remind us of all the great music
and musicians that have come and gone over the years.
