The year - 2011. The place - Planet Earth. The issue - that
each individual on earth be allowed to live in peace!!!
Amnesty International describes its organization as a global
movement of more than 3 million supporters, members and
activists in over 150 countries or territories who campaign
to end grave abuses of human rights.
So why is it we continue to have worldwide problems? Perhaps
much is political, perhaps a lack of education, or even the
flow of drugs impacting on regions all over our globe.
Our precious earth. Precious precious earth. And yet so
neglected. The people of this planet want to live in peace,
whether the very poor or the very rich. We all want a good life.
The vision of Amnesty International is for every person to
enjoy the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights.
Still problems. Many problems. In Egypt women protestors
beaten and given electric shock by the military. In small
villages of Afghanistan some elders forced to leave, and in
China we are well familiar with Liu Xianbin sentenced to
10 years for inciting subversion by writing articles critical
of the Government.
Journalists and writers and bloggers need to continue to
bring matters to the attention of the general public. And
membership in Amnesty International can only help.
