I don't usually get depressed or discouraged about things in general, but
this summer up here in Canada has been a mix of rain and mosquitos. And it seemed that every time I wanted to finish our little wooden tool shed, either the rain put a damper on the project or the mosquitos seemed to really like my company. That small slender insect -that in
some places transmit malaria or yellow fever.  But they have been
abundant this year - those pesky mosquitos!! So finally I just ignored
them and went about my work with hammer and nail and a plan...

Its still the simple things that we enjoy - when we journey to our cabin -
the garden, complete with that mystical hummingbird, the piliated woodpecker that seems to find lots of work in our woods and the
new stream that has emerged with the help of mother nature.  Most of
all, we like the quiet, something that is often missing in the city...

My good wife hunted for and found orange-cap mushrooms which
ended up on the stove next to the new potatoes from our small garden.
Soon we shall take some of the plentiful rhubarb, making a nice juice
as well as pie.

Something nice about a wood burning fireplace and going out to get
a supply of birch.  And returning back to the city we are always refreshed. Even our doggie (Sandy) has a look of renewal in her eyes.
Because the simple things out in rural areas seems to bring us down to
earth, back to earlier times when things were less complicated and as
Singer-Songwriter John Denver once said in a song: "Thank God I'm a
countryboy..."
