Have you ever seen the squirrels in the late fall .. when they are running around... and picking up *stuff* and running up the tree?Aww yes ~ They are gathering food for the winter~
Just as we are now~and will be doing untill the snow falls~
Gathering fruit from our fruit trees and picking our rhubarb and vegetables and putting them away ... either freezing them or canning them...... However... i don’t really know if women do much canning these days.. like they used to in the days gone by ...
In those days it was hard to keep food from spoiling.. so canning ..was probably the most common process used to keep their supply of preserved food through the winter~ That would be vegetables mostly `
Jam on the other hand.... doesn’t have to be put in jars if you want to make freezer jam... I actually haven’t tried much freezer jam .In fact i haven’t even tried making freezer jam. although i have tasted it once~
We are used to the old method of canning Jam since that it is so good and it goes so fast in out house on toast in the mornings ~I think almost everything can be kept either by the canning method or freezing it. Of course there are a few vegetables that have to be used fresh ~
If you don’t have the time to do any of this .... almost everywhere there are farmers markets and you can certainly fine anything that you want or need at one of the markets including homemade goodies like *perogies and cabbage rolls...*.. and baked goods~
So enjoy the fall and all that it has to offer..........
