Yes friends. Its the time of text messages. u rite me. i respond u.
That sort of thing. Lots of abbrev. messages. And it makes me wonder. Are we getting through? Remember the good old days when
we sat down to write a long hand written letter and sometimes had to wait weeks for a response. We would always save the stamp and in some cases keep the letter and envelope intact. As though it were some lost treasure. And perhaps it was. Patience and literacy were the requirements. Thats not to say in this computer age that we are
impatient and lacking literacy skills...but something is sometimes missing. And perhaps thats the feeling that went with a long hand written letter. I think many of us still treasure our old snail mail, open the letters years later to re-read. Our letters spoke of friends and family, letters about our work place whether it be local or off in China somewhere...special special letters. We shared moments of grief and moments of joy and our letters were written from the heart, often sitting at the table under candlelight and quietly walking down to the post office to send the letter. Some came back via Elvis type mail - return to sender. There were some that we worried about, were they lost or misplaced? Simply not responded to.
Now we have the delete button. So we delete, delete. delete. no more special treasures. Simply - delete.
Ah yes, the days of real mail. Gone like the dinasaur. But if we want to we still might take the time and sit under candle light and compose something from the heart. And click and its sent. And click and its received. Just maybe the heart can still be found in our messages if they are prepared in that order.
am going sleep now. luv u all. nite.
