Today was the best day yet. There were very few kids in school so Katie and I could concentrate on just Neha and Rohit, 2 Class 1 children. Although teaching was dull, lunchtime was great as most of the volunteers played with the kids - Cleo brought a skipping rope which the kids really enjoyed.
The reason teaching is so difficult is because we are given very few resources, and we don't know the curriculum. As well as the fact that none of us have any experience whatsoever at teaching children.
On a better note, Neha actually talked t us today and came to sit on my lap and even laughed (sounds petty but a big step forward). I really love the class 2 girls Dicksha and Garima because they are simply so cute! Although Dicksha got a slap from the teacher which made her cry. I was very angry.
After school we went into Palampur to pick up our tailor-made Salwar Kameez - very exciting! Then we went to eat at the Taj, a restaurant in town, and whilst doing so we saw a pregnant donkey eating cardboard from the window. It really bothered me - he knees were pressed together when she walked from the strain of her belly - so we fed her our leftover chips and naan bread and bought some carrots for her and the dad donkey. We had some funny looks from the locals because animals are not treated well in India at all. On the way to school we often see a poor little grey pony with it's legs tied together to stop it from running (away).
I'm starting to get quite sick of bland, tasteless food. But everything else is good. Have to go do a lesson plan for tomorrow...YAY!
