I found this movie quite by accident and could not move until it was over. Yes, a foreign film from Japan with English sub-titles, but beautiful and sad.
A young mother and her four siblings (all from different fathers) move into a Tokyo Apartment. Eventually the mother abandons the children to be with yet another boyfriend. Winter turns to spring.
How the children survive is nothing short of a miracle especially after heat, water, electricity and phone are all cut off. And the landlord wants the rent.
Not only is the mother reckless, but one of the dads
would be best described as a dead-beat dad, with absolutely no interest in the children.
Our kids taught English in Japan and know first hand how expensive it is to live in Tokyo.
This film is not only a gem, but leaves much food for thought during this winter and Christmas season when folks in many parts of the world are really, really hurting....this film is a story of love and survival...
A standing ovation. 9 out of 10 stars!!
