Always interesting to hear about people who lived a long life. Well, for Sum Ying
Fung, it must have been an incredible life. Born at a time radio was non-existent,
years before the first flight was recorded by the Wright Brothers and ten years
before the first Model T.
Sum Ying Fung was born Jan. 27, 1899 and died Dec 15, 2011. That made her
exactly 112 years old. Married in 1926, raising two children. Simple advice, like
eating your veggies, yet she was someone who liked salty food, such as salted fish. Even a smoker, she still lived a long life. Maybe its just something special
for some people, to live so long. She was the oldest Canadian....
One thing important to Sum was the vegetable garden and perhaps tending to the garden was part of the activity that kept her healthy....
I doubt anyone can forecast the possible number of days that you or I have left
but then again we look about and notice people are generally living longer...
Just a suggestion, this time of year, make certain you are in touch with someone
in a seniors home or living alone. Be a friend to the elderly. Someday each of us
shall be old and perhaps alone. None of us really know what the state of our health might be ten or twenty years from now. Although its likely if we keep a very positive atitude and eat our veggies as Sum Ying Fung suggested, just maybe there is hope.....to live a long life!!
Make the most of your life, challenge yourself everyday to something new, no matter how insignifcant it may seem, because if its important to you, thats what counts. Dare to take a risk. And be not afraid to get out of your comfort zone.
Its important for all of us to be active.
Getting older can also mean getting better!! So don't let grey hair and a few
achy muscles stop you from trying something new. And be like that little
train going up the mountain....I think I can, I think I can....
....and you can....
