George is probably the best( country )song writer in the world.
Born George Harvey Strait to John Byron Strait and Doris Couser Strait in Pearsell, Texas in
l952. George had a stint in the army in 1971, played in a rock and roll band, eloped with his childhood sweetheart (Norma) and most important went on to hold the record for more number one
albums, gold albums, platinum albums - in the history of country music. You might find George
at the Ranch, riding a motorcycle, or even hunting or fishing when he is not making music.
What I find so incredible and wonderful is the way George writes his songs...such as the tune...I Hate
Everything...or Amarilo by Morning...truly a writer
who is able to not only tell a story in his music but
able to paint a picture. George was influenced in his early years by Merle Haggard, George Jones and even Frank Sinatra. He lists his occupations as Singer, Record Producer and Actor.
Getting his start with MCA Records in 1981, truly
the rest has been history for this incredible and multi talented songwriter.
If I were asked which songwriter I would style my own songs after - without a doubt - it would be
George Strait....
George lost his brother I believe in a rodeo accident (I stand to be corrected) and his daughter at age 13 in a car accident. Perhaps many of his songs reflect on life, relationships and the rodeo. A very gifted writer - and if you believe that (to quote George) -
I have some ocean front property in Arizona...
And yes George, we salute you for your many years and accomplishments -and wish you many more....
