What is it about being on a diet that causes others to want us to eat cake?

Is it that the idea that declining a piece of cake will invoke great suffering and deprivation on our part and they don’t wish to see us suffer?

Is it disbelief that someone could actually refuse such a tasty,

decadent  confection?

Is cake something we’ve often indulged, and they are uncomfortable with our change?

It could be they believe one ‘cheat’ won’t really affect the diet, so encourage us to ‘go on and just have a little piece.’

Or perhaps it is that witnessing our health, strength, motivation, and conviction point out the lack thereof on their part. Hmm…

I don’t know what it is about making healthy choices that will sometimes cause others to undermine, deflate and sabotage our fledgling efforts, but I do know they will. So no matter what you are working on – weight loss, smoking cessation, alcohol reduction, saving money, going back to school or even growing out your hair – you must be clear about what you are doing and solid in your motivation to do it. No matter how well meaning, the people around you do not have your best interest in mind, they have their own. So if seeing you fail helps them in any way to feel better about themselves, that is their motivation, their subconscious goal.

Arm yourself! Be clear in your intentions and do not let anyone distract you from your course! Cake and camaraderie may taste good now, but you have a higher goal – one that to you, will taste ever so much sweeter.

As always, it is my goal to uplift, inspire and help others to heal their lives. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this with you. – Kim
