Young Dale Hawkins was working at the Stan Lewis Record store in Arkansas when he wrote and made up a demo of his song Suzie Q for a radio station, which was passed to Chess Records by San Lewis.
And who would ever guess this song would move up the ladder over the years, first performed by the Sugarman 3 and then
the Creedence Clearwater Revival picked it up in 1968, it then got into the hands of singer John Fogerty in 1998 and eventually a version by the Rolling Stones to name just a few of the folks who liked Susie Q.
The world lost Dale Hawkins in 2010 at the age of 73, but the song Suzie Q is still being picked up from time to time, for example an 11 min. long version by the group
Wilco.
Such a simplistic song, yet appreciated by thousands of listeners. Still a great song, you can probably watch the very professional John Fogerty do Suzie Q on You Tube.
Good music, good lyrics and you have a winning combination...and so inspiring to all songwriters how a song with the right title, words and music might still find its way to greatness....
Oh Suzie Q, Oh Suzie Q, how we love you....Suzie Q.....
