John Prine and myself are about one year apart as far as age is concerned. But as far as songwriting is concerned John Prine is in a special place all of his own. I seem to recall that in the early years Mr. Prine was performing at one of his many concerts in New York and Bob Dylan was suddenly behind him, harmonica in hand. Now, if that does not tell you something about John Prine!!! Also the fact that singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson pretty much made the discovery and introduced the world to this very very talented singer and songwriter.

Like Johnny Cash, I find much inspiration for my own songwriting, especially listening to songs like the Speed of the Sound of Loneliness (which I apologize to you Mr. Prine, having wrongly credited Nancy Griffith with the song) But knowing the type of person that John Prine is - don't think he would mind that incorrect reference, especially considering that Nancy did a superb cover of that tune.

John Prine resides in Nashville with a second home in Florida (I would say he has done well!!) It is interesting to note that Sam Phillips (ya, the same guy who recorded Elvis) picked up John Prine with
album Pink Cadillac on Sun Records in 1979.

Now going from high school to a postman, to a stint  in the army and then producing and performing music from the 60's - gives one a clue that the music industry requires not only being able to write good songs, but in the case of John Prine, perform and record words and music that further attest to what a fine and magnificent talent that John Prine happens to be,  And not so very long ago in around the late 90's Prine recorded some splendid duets with Emmylou Harris, and Iris DeMent. Sweet and sing-a-long numbers such as In Spite of Ourselves...

Perhaps it was that moment in Chicago at the beginning when John Prime was about to introduce a song during one of those open mic events and someone shouted..."so you think you can do better..." and perhaps and likely John Prine indeed proved to that menacing voice....yes, better....
and in my opinion, magnificent!!

Keep up the wonderful music Mr. Prine!! If you are in need of a co-writer...here I am....
